Austin High School students stepped up for personal care recently, and it paid off.

The AHS Student Union raised $143 and several supplies for the Mower County Red Cross Personal Care Shelf in late October and early November. Though the new group fell short of their $1,000 goal, AHS students said the learning experience was good.

“We made a community impact,” said AHS senior Matt Lunning.

The money will be used to by hygiene products for families in emergency situations, according to Elaine Hansen, executive director of the MCRC.

“It’s great,” she said.

Lunning said Student Union students are already working on their next fundraiser.
