A Nebraska man is being held in the Mower County jail after he allegedly fled the scene after rear-ending a minivan around 1 a.m. Sunday morning.

Police Chief Brian Krueger said 42-year-old Tony Lynn Personius could face charges for fleeing a peace officer, DWI, reckless driving and a number of marijuana-related crimes. Personius has yet to be formally charged.

According to Krueger, an Austin police officer witnessed Personius, who was driving a Chevy Suburban, rear-end a minivan in the 500 block of Third Avenue NW. The Suburban then drove away from the scene, so the officer followed and attempted to make a traffic stop.

Personius allegedly fled from the officer at speeds up to 40 mph in the city until police were able to pull him over near the 200 block of Eighth Street SW.

Personius was Tazed during the arrest because he kept trying to put his hands in pockets, Krueger said.

He will likely be charged in the coming days.

Krueger said the victim of the hit and run was gone when officers returned to complete the accident report. Police would like the driver of the minivan to come forward so they can complete the report.
