A 19-year-old Austin man who allegedly assaulted four police officers while intoxicated is scheduled to enter his plea in Mower County District Court on Dec. 15.
Timothy Andrew Bakke was charged last Thursday with two counts of fourth-degree assault, two counts of fifth-degree assault, obstructing the legal process and underage consumption. Five of the six charges are gross misdemeanors.
According to a court complaint, officers were called to Bakke’s residence the evening of Nov. 30 because he reportedly came home drunk and argumentative. The callers told police they had been having problems with Bakke because of his excessive drinking and alleged tendency to mix alcohol with pain medication.
Upon arrival, officers searched Bakke because he is reportedly known to carry weapons. According to the court complaint, he began walking away as they searched him, so Officer Michael Hartman put his hand on Bakke’s chest to stop him. Bakke allegedly shoved Hartman, and when officers put him on the ground to arrest him, he allegedly attempted to kick Hartman and Officer April Kline.
He continued to shove the officers as they led him to the squad car, court documents state.
Once in the squad car, he allegedly tried to kick Officer Kimberly Deutsch. When the officers arrived at the Mower County jail and tried to get Bakke out of the car safely, he reportedly kicked Kline in the shin. Court documents state he also allegedly attacked Shift Sgt. Christopher Fletcher in a jail cell after he was booked.
Bakke has a prior fifth-degree assault conviction dated Nov. 18, 2010, according to court documents.
