A Lyle resident returned home early Sunday morning to find $500 of ornaments and keepsakes destroyed.

The homeowner, who lives at 113 Fourth Street in Lyle, said someone broke in between 6 p.m. Saturday night and 1 a.m. Sunday morning while he was gone.

Among the destroyed keepsakes was a shadow box and its contents that had been smashed. No items were reported as stolen.

The homeowner said the house was locked when he left, but Sheriff Terese Amazi said it appears the burglar entered through the front door.

Amazi said there are suspects in the case, but it is still under investigation.
