The possible arrival of large, new fabrics store in Austin next year took a step forward Monday night.
City council unanimously approved an addition to the Target sign near Highway 218 — an addition that will bear the name “Jo-Ann Fabrics,” a crafts and fabrics store that has 1,000 locations across the U.S. and employs 20,000 people, according to its website.
Jo-Ann’s would be looking to lease 17,000 square feet at the Austin Town Center complex, which is owned by Centro Properties group.
That would likely reduce the space currently allotted to Rooms and Rest, community development director Craig Hoium said.
According to a Jo-Ann’s spokeswoman, the move is targeted for the second half of 2010.
No final agreement has been reached between the fabrics store and the property owner.
