ST. PAUL — St. Paul police are stepping up patrols after two attempted abductions in the Frogtown neighborhood.

A 15-year-old girl told investigators a man drove up in an older, white four-door sedan, asked her for directions and offered a ride around 6 p.m. Wednesday. She says when she refused the ride, the man pointed a handgun at her. The girl ran away.

Police say they’re looking for a black male, 40 to 50 years old with a mustache and glasses. He was wearing black jeans and a baseball cap.

Police later received a report of a second attempted abduction that happened about 7:15 a.m. Wednesday. A 12-year-old girl says a man in a dark green van offered a ride, then stepped out of the van and asked her to get in. The girl ran away. She did not see a weapon.

The man in that case is described as black, about 50 years old with a beard. He was wearing faded baggy jeans and a faded baseball cap.

Police don’t believe the two incidents are connected.
