Southland couldn’t overcome five turnovers in a 28-14 loss at No. 2 Triton (10-0 overall) in the Section 2AA football semifinals Saturday.

The No. 3 seeded Rebels (7-3 overall) racked up 177 rushing yards, but they dropped a punt and threw four interceptions which resulted in two of Triton’s touchdowns.

“We had them right where we wanted them, but you just can’t have those kinds of turnovers in a big game and expect to win,” Southland head coach Shawn Kennedy said.

Southland scored on its first possession of the game to go up 7-0, but Triton tied things up when it scored on a fake field goal.

“We knew it was coming but we couldn’t stop it,” Kennedy said.

Triton, which had just 125 yards on the ground, put the game away with a touchdown with 1:30 left in the game.
