Marcus Ball returns to D3football team of the week

After a solid performance against UW-Stevens Point Saturday, UW-Stout’s Marcus Ball, a senior from Austin, was named to the D3football.com team of the week.

After returning from an injury that kept him out of three games, Ball had five tackles, three solo in a 7-6 loss at UW-Stevens Point. Ball had 2.5 sacks for 16 yards and 3.5 tackles for losses of 17 yards.

Ball forced two fumbles and was credited with one quarterback hurry, he also had back-to-back sacks/fumbles forced in the second quarter. With 1:05 remaining in the first half, Ball sacked the Stevens Point quarterback, who fumbled.

Stevens Point recovered the ball, but Ball racked up another sack on the next play, forcing a fumble that was recovered by Stout with 25 seconds remaining on the Pointer 27. Three plays later, Kyle Martin (Sr, Hurbertus) kicked a field goal to put Stout up 6-0 at halftime.

On the season, the preseason All-American has 5.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks.

Ball was named to the D3football.com team of the week twice last season.

Stout (4-1, 1-1) will host UW-Whitewater, Saturday, Oct. 17 at 3 p.m.
