Austin Fire Department extinguished a 24 foot by 24 foot section of burning leaves — burned illegally within the city limits — Saturday night.

Richard Sheldon, 48, of Austin, was cited for unlawful burning after the fire department and officers responded to the incident.

Sheldon was burning the large section of leaves in his backyard in the 100 block of 24th Street Northwest.

Burning is illegal in the Austin city limits with the exception of recreational fires contained in a fire pit.
