Heather Deters had always loved music and Jesus. When the chance came to combine the two, she took it.

Deters, an aspiring Christian musician, recently published her first CD, titled “Not By Sight.”

“I grew up singing, and I always wanted to sing,” Deters said. “It’s been a dream in the works.”

After spending years working as a worship leader and a missionary, Deters has made the first step to bigger and better things. She travels a lot, so much so that she feels moving around “is in (her) bones.”

The Brownsdale-born singer has experience working with several Christian bands and music groups in various churches, as well as singing on other Christian artists’ albums, until finally deciding to record her own CD of songs she said she’s been working on for years.

She recorded “Not By Sight,” in January at Launchpad Productions in Denver. Deters said she got the album title from one of her tracks, where she talks about living her life by faith, not by what she sees.

The CD, which is self-published, came out last week. Deters will be holding a CD release party Thursday, Nov. 4 at Gymocha in Austin from 5-7 p.m., where she’ll be performing an acoustic set of her songs as well as selling copies.

Deters will be in town for only a little while, as she heads back on the road to her home in Kansas City, and the next step in trying to make a name for herself in the Christian music world.
