An Austin teenager was arrested early Saturday after allegedly fleeing from officers after driving a stolen vehicle while intoxicated.

A police officer saw the vehicle swerve wildly at two males, so the cop pursued the car, according to a police report.

The vehicle was pulled over on the 300 block of Fifth Street Northwest at around 1:25 a.m. and the 16-year-old driver was instructed to remain in the vehicle.

The male smelled of alcohol and provided a false name when asked, so he was asked to step out of the vehicle, which he said he was borrowing from a friend.

After briefly sitting on the curb, the teenager got up and ran in the direction of the high school.

Another officer in the area gave chase and apprehended the male near Third Avenue and Fourth Street northwest.

He was taken to detox and later the juvenile detention center in Red Wing.

A 25-year-old woman told police that the suspect had taken her car from Torge’s earlier that evening without her permission.

She registered the car as stolen with an officer.

The teenager awaits charges in Mower County court.
