A 49-year-old alleged drunk driver wanted in Goodhue County reportedly rear-ended a family’s car Monday while intoxicated.
Police Chief Brian Krueger said Darnell Jones, of Austin, was arrested for suspected DWI after the crash around 9 p.m. Monday. The family — a husband, wife and 4-year-old child — sustained minor injuries. The woman complained of neck pain, Krueger said, and the three went to the hospital on their own after the crash to be checked out.
The man told police he was traveling south on Eighth Street NE when he stopped at the four-way stop at the intersection of Eighth Street and Eighth Avenue NE. A red Kia Sportage, reportedly driven by Jones, approached from behind at a high speed and rear-ended the man and his family, Krueger said.
Once at the jail, Jones agreed to a urine test to determine his blood alcohol content. Jones could face charges once the results come back.
Krueger said he could be charged with driving after cancellation, dangerous to public safety, in addition to the potential DWI charge.
Jones had an outstanding warrant in Goodhue County for failing to appear in court, according to Krueger.
