The Mower County Historical Society will receive two grants from the Minnesota Historical Society.
MCHS will receive two Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage grants for its K-8 Educational Curriculum Needs Assessment, about $5,620, and $7,000 for the “Ghost Towns of Mower County” Exhibit.
“This is a theme we thought would be interesting and unique for our visitors,” said Dustin Heckman, Executive Director of MCHS.
Heckman said the exhibit will open in the original fairgrounds building sometime next year, although the exact date hasn’t been decided yet. The Renova General Store will also go in the original fairgrounds building to keep with the theme.
Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grants are made possible by the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund with passage of the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment by the vote of Minnesotans on Nov. 4, 2008. The amendment supports efforts to preserve Minnesota land, water and legacy, including state history and cultural heritage.
Freeborn County also received two grants. Freeborn County Historical Society received $2,830 for its Historical Marker and $4,409 for its microfilm acquisition.
