Melvin B. Lund, 77

Melvin B. Lund, 77, of Onalaska, died on Friday, Nov. 5, 2010 at the Franciscan Skemp Medical Center.

He was born on June 1, 1933 in Alexandria, Minnesota to Walter and Ethel (Carlson) Lund, and raised by his father and step-mother. After high school he served in the U.S. Army for two years. He married Bernice Ziegelman on May 24, 1958 in Garfield, Minn. Melvin spent his working years in sales and as a small business owner. He was a member of the LCMS since marriage and a lifelong member of the American Legion. He was a devoted Christian who cherished time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Bernice, one daughter Terri (Michael) Lichtie of La Crosse, two sons Todd (Tammy Sobania) Lund of Blaine, MN and Troy (Patricia) Lund of Hastings, Minn., three grandchildren Trevor (Heidi) Lund, Jessica Lichtie and Rebecca Lichtie and one step grandson Jeremy Lichtie, four sisters Grace Heinrich of St. Paul, Corrinne (Harry) Kruize of Donnelly, Minn., Jean (Charles) Essala of Brandon, Minn. and Helen (Ralph) Townsend of Garfield, Minn., three brothers John (Karen) Lund of Brandon, Minn., Wayne Lund of Brandon, Minn. and Chester Lund of Houston. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Edsel and his step-mother Josie.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 12, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Onalaska. Rev. Donald Stein will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Onalaska City Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of service.
