Anita May Smith, 90, of Austin, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, at the Adams Health Care Center, Adams.

Anita was born April 7, 1921, in Enderlin, N.D., the daughter of Helmuth and Daisy (Newling) Zabel. After graduating from high school and attending college, Anita was married to Robert F. Smith. They resided in Austin where she was employed at the Hormel Foods Corp. until her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Robert Smith.

Anita is survived by a stepson, Robert W. Smith, Seattle, Wash.; sister, Louise Beeman, Austin; and brother, Donald Zabel, Austin.

At Anita’s request, there will be no funeral service. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery, Austin. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
