Southland alumni, authors to speak at fundraiser

Two Southland High School alumni and accomplished authors will speak at a Belgian waffle fundraiser Saturday, Oct. 24.
Julie Kramer, 1977 alumna and author of mystery novels “Stalking Susan” and “Missing Mark,” and Sally Hoeft Scheckel, 1981 graduate and author and illustrator of the children’s book “Q.T. Patootie,” will speak during the event.
The breakfast will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at Southland Elementary School in Rose Creek. The event is the biggest fundraiser for the school’s parent-teacher organization.
Homecoming
Southland is also celebrating homecoming this week.
The school crowned its homecoming royalty, Haley Janssen and Casey Cederstrom, on Monday. The court also included Arielle Anderson, Jessica Freund, Haley Hoff, Jessica Pitzen, Mitch Nagele, Nic Poshusta, Jeff Schlichter and Karsen Ulwelling.
A pep fest will be held today at the elementary school in Rose Creek at 1:45 p.m., followed by a pep fest at Sacred Heart School.
Royalty will be introduced on Thursday, and the Channel One food drive will also be held that day. The varsity volleyball team will play during “Pack the Gym” night.
The middle and high school will host a pep fest Friday at 8:30 a.m., followed by float decorating and the third annual Rebels Olympics from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The parade will begin at 2 p.m., weather permitting. The football game will start at 7 p.m.
Homecoming dress-up days include:
Tuesday — Sports Day at elementary; Formal Day at middle school; and Dress Like Your Favorite Teacher Day at high school
Today —Hippie Day at elementary; Sports Day at middle school; and College Day at high school
Thursday — Hat Day at elementary; Wacky/Nerd Day at middle school; and Generation Day at high school
Friday — Spirit Day at all schools
