Working to make SE Minnesota a cultural hotspot

Eric Bunge has a vision for communities to embrace the arts as being integral to their overall health and well-being.

He would like to see southeastern Minnesota be recognized as a cultural destination and has worked hard to bring this mission to fruition.

His endeavor began in 1989 when he co-founded the well-known Commonweal Theatre in Lanesboro.

The Commonweal was vital in turning the tiny, unknown agricultural town into a tourist hot spot. Time and time again Lanesboro is used as a prime example of how the arts can transform a community.

The pinnacle of Eric’s career at the Commonweal was leading the fundraising campaign to build a new theatre that opened in 2007.

After moving the Commonweal to its new location, Eric moved on as well to help other Southeastern Minnesota arts organizations thrive.

This past summer, he became the Managing Director of the Winona-based Great River Shakespeare Festival and has been working as a consultant to the Austin Area Commission for the Arts (AACA) since August.

AACA Board President Dave Sylte regards Eric’s expertise and experience as vital resources in preparing the organization for a successful future.

Stay tuned throughout the new year as Eric continues to help our organization to grow.
