County to send early reappraisal notices to commercial properties

Commercial property owners are getting big news earlier, it seems.

The Mower County Board of Commissioners voted to send tax reappraisal letters to commercial property owners about two to three weeks before annual tax statements are to be sent out in March or April.

The action comes after the county appointed Vanguard Appraisals to reappraise county land.

The reappraisals significantly differed, according to board commissioners.

“We felt it was needed to get a uniform land value,” said Craig Oscarson, county coordinator.

Commercial property owners can contest the change to their land value at their city or township’s boards of equalization before coming to the county board, Oscarson said.
