Hayfield boys open with a big win

The Hayfield boys basketball team opened its season with a 59-39 win at Cannon Falls (0-1 overall) Saturday.

The Vikings scored seven points in the first 45 seconds and they led 11-0 to open the game.

Hayfield (1-0 overall) went on to lead 39-16 at the half as Bobbie Stephens hit four triples in the first half.

“We were in control the whole game,” Hayfield head coach Chris Pack said. “It was a game we knew we could win and getting off to that fast start took away their hope early.”

Freshman point guard Cole Kruger had a strong debut for Hayfield as he had eight points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals.

“Cole sees the floor well and he did a good job of getting the rebound and leading the break himself,” Pack said.
