The Hayfield girls basketball team snapped a three-game skid when it knocked off Blue Earth (12-2 overall) 44-41 in overtime in Hayfield Saturday.
Blue Earth scored four straight points at the end of regulation to force overtime, but the Vikings (7-9 overall) opened strong in overtime as sophomore Dani Wagner, who scored 16 points, and sophomore Jessie Foster each scored to give Hayfield a lead it wouldn’t give up.
“It’s a very nice win for us and it was a very good effort,” Hayfield head coach Fred Kindschy said.
Hayfield hit 7-of-10 from the free throw line in OT to hold on to the win.
Two of the Vikings’ three previous losses were against state ranked teams.
