Beth Floy Braland, 93

Beth Floy Braland, 93, resident of Diamond Willows Assisted Living, Baxter, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012. Funeral services will be held at Asbury Methodist Church in Lake Mills, Iowa, at 11 a.m. Friday with visitation one hour prior to services at the church.

Beth was born on July 17, 1918, in Albert Lea, to Mary and Edward Stanley, and lived in Alden, until she was joined in marriage to Garman Braland on Dec. 24, 1939, in Forest City, Iowa. Beth and Garman made their home in Lake Mills, Iowa, where they raised their family and made many life-long friends. Beth was preceded in death by Garman, her husband of 44 years, her brother, Leigh, of Forest City, her parents and many close friends. Beth was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother and was known for her delicious apple pies, and her love of gardens and dogs as well as her beautiful handiwork including knitting, embroidery and needlepoint. Her home was always a welcoming place for friends and family for a good visit filled with an abundance of love, homemade bars, cookies and pies. Beth was always ready to go shopping or out for lunch on a moment’s notice.

Beth was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and the Order of Eastern Star in Lake Mills, Iowa. She was a member of the Saturday Afternoon Club, Literary Club, Book of the Month Club, Bridge groups, church circles and knitting and sewing clubs. Beth was also employed by My Ladies dress shop and L & M Plastics for many years.

She is survived by her sons: Paul and his wife Pam, of Baxter, and Ross and his wife, Char, of Burnsville; grandchildren: Kimberly (Braland) Jacobson and her husband, Brian, of Lakeville, John Braland and his wife, Kathi, of Watertown, and Carrie (Braland) Weber and her husband, Craig, of Wayzata. Beth’s great-grandchildren are Abigail and Andrew Jacobson and Josh, Sara and Katie Braland.

Beth’s family wishes to thank the wonderful and caring staff of Diamond Willow, the Rev. Lilja from Lord of Life Church in Baxter for her many visits, and the Heartland Hospice staff. The family requests memorials to Children’s Hospital In care of: Children’s Foundation, 2010 Center Pointe Drive, Roseville, MN 55113 or to a memorial of choice.
