Southgate Elementary School is getting ready for a big night.
More than 150 people will attend Southgate’s annual Family Night this Thursday.
This year’s event is even bigger than before, according to Nicole Caporale, head of Southgate’s equity team. In previous years, about 20 to 30 parents would attend events aimed at bringing students together.
“We wanted to really expand that,” Caporale said.
That’s why students will make books based on their culture, what they like and what they don’t like at the event. In addition, Southgate’s choir will also perform and food from different cultures represented in Austin will be served as well.
Southgate’s Family Night will start at 6 p.m. Thursday at the school with no set end time. The event is open to Southgate families only, and there is still time to RSVP by contacting Caporale or Southgate’s office at 460-1300.
