HAYFIELD — The Hayfield volleyball struggled with a tough Stewartville front line in a 25-16, 25-18, 16-25, 15-25 loss in Hayfield Thursday.
The Tigers front row combination of Julie Rainey, who had 16 kills and 10 digs, and Lisa Flynn, who had eight kills and 10 assists, gave Hayfield (2-1 overall, 2-1 HVL) fits.
“They’ve got a couple of really good outside hitters and they’re using them in new roles,” Hayfield head coach Deb Harvey said. “They were setting and they really dominated the game. Those two were pretty much outstanding.”
The Tigers (4-0 overall, 4-0 HVL) focused on Hayfield’s biggest hitter, Kiley Severson and held her to nine kills.
“Stewartville played good defense and their serves always keep us off balanced,” Harvey said. “That was one of the big differences.”
Junior setter Molly Streightiff had a good showing for the Vikings, coming up with 16 set assists, three ace serves and three kills.
“She had a pretty strong all around game and her setting was good,” Harvey said. “I just wish we could’ve gotten her a few more kills. Usually she’s one of our leading hitters too.”
Kiley Severson added 11 digs for Hayfield, Alyssa Selk had 24 digs, Sam Serratore had 10 digs, Jaide Ryks had 15 digs, while Kelsey Severson, Liz Ristau and Abby Blanchard each had four kills.
