Junk will be cleared at stalled housing development

In a quick vote Tuesday, city council gave the planning and zoning department permission to contract out debris removal at a stalled condo development in Austin.
According to city documents, complaints were made about downed trees, tires, concrete and construction material littering Fox Pointe in northwest Austin.
Complaints were sent to developer Roger Derrick on July 29 and Aug. 18.
The planning and zoning department investigated each time and found violations of city code.
The complaints state that Derrick would have 10 days to deal with the junk before they would be referred to city council.
Derrick said the future of the development is in question after council voted against an amendment request to the condominium’s development plan in July.
The amendment Derrick was looking for would’ve brought a road through the development — a road he said would’ve spurred development.
