The Austin girls soccer team couldn’t keep up with the pace of Rochester Century in a 13-0 loss at Art Hass Stadium Tuesday.
The Panthers (4-2 overall) took the lead early when Chloe Seick knocked in a 15-footer and a put-back goal in the first nine minutes to put Century up 2-0. The Panthers scored three more times before the 20 minute mark and led 10-0 at the half.
Lizzie Stenhaug scored two second half goals for the Panthers, who then decided to stop shooting after going up 13-0.
“Century’s a good team. They’re smart and they’re coached real well. They’ve got a lot of class. It was a friendly game,” Austin co-head coach Josh Dumas said.
Austin had just one shot on goal when Erika Stehlik had a shot near the goal saved in the first half.
“It’s a team effort and our offense can’t make shots if we don’t get it up to them,” Dumas said. “Our whole team struggled at times, but our whole team never gave up. That was nice because we had some issues with that earlier in a couple games.”
Junior keeper Breanna Wehner did a solid job in her first start at the net for the Packers (1-5 overall). She made 17 saves, including a couple of jumping stops and a couple point blank stops.
“Breanna’s developing really quickly and we’re looking forward to how she continues to progress,” Dumas said. “She kept going one hundred percent at the balls. She’s got to learn a little more, but she’s got a lot of raw instinct on where to put herself.”
Senior keeper Kaitlyn Stark closed the game.
