Austin Police Department looking to fill officer vacancy

The Austin Police Department has one less officer these days — a position the chief is looking to fill.

Patrol officer Amy Morgan decided to go back to school, Chief Paul Philipp said, so the department will be asking the city council for approval to fill the spot.

The position is currently budgeted, but Philipp said the uncertain economic times makes any hire uncertain.

“We’ll see,” he said. “I’m hoping (to fill the position).”

The department will also be asking for approval to hire a new secretary, as Judy Boorman is slated for retirement on Sept. 24.

That position is also budgeted.

Philipp will present to the city council during their Tuesday work session.
