Dorothy Joy Deike, 86

Dorothy Joy Deike, 86, of Austin, Minn., passed away Saturday evening, Jan. 28, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin.

She was born Oct. 30, 1925, to Alfred and Emma “Elizabeth” (Mensink) Severson in Austin. Dorothy was a lifelong Austin area resident. She graduated from Austin High School in 1944 and married Leonard Deike on June 22, 1947, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. She was a homemaker and loved living on the farm, tended a large garden, enjoyed roadtrips out west and visited Norway and Alaska twice. Dorothy liked doing “artsy-craftsy things,” crossword puzzles, traveling and baking. She also liked to do ceramics and paint them. Dorothy was a member of Red Oak Grove Church, taught Sunday school for 21 years, belonged to circle and just loved to visit with people.

Survivors include two sons: Kelly Deike of Austin and Scott (Luz) Deike of Ogden, Kan.; sisters: Ruby Helgeson of Northwood, Iowa, Carol Prelesnik of Rio Vista, Calif., Deloris Severson of Austin, Ardith (Carl) Vasey of Monticello, Iowa, Janice (Duane) Schaefer of Rose Creek, Minn., Cheryl (Rusty) Deets of Bonham, Texas; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard in 1998; three brothers: Harlan, Ronald and Myron and one sister, Muriel.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, at Red Oak Grove Church with visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Febr. 1, 2012, at the Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be at Red Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Red Oak Grove Church. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is in charge of arrangements.
