Looking for something to get dad for Father’s Day? Why not treat him to pancakes, a horse show — or a nice afternoon in the park, surrounded by the perhaps-not-so-peaceful sounds of infantry and artillery demonstrations?

These activities and more take place in and around Austin Sunday.

Mower County 4-H hosts its first ever Father’s Day Pancake Feed and Silent Auction from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Plaeger Building at the Mower County Fairgrounds.

Jan Olson, from the University of Minnesota Extension Office, said the group was looking to do something other than its normal Father’s Day Steak Dinner.

“It’s a fundraiser for them. The 4-H students will serve the meal,” she said.

Breakfast is $5 and free for children under 5.

For those who prefer waffles, St. Olaf Lutheran Church holds a Dad’s Belgian Waffle Breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon at the church, 301 First St. NW. Tickets are $7 for adults; $3 for children 6-12; and free for children under 5. Proceeds benefit residents of St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.

The Line Riders Saddle Club hosts a Southeastern Minnesota Saddle Club Association horse show at the Mower County Fairgrounds Sunday. Judged classes start at 8 a.m., followed by timed events through the morning.

In Adams, Father’s Day will be filled with infantry and artillery demonstrations throughout the morning at the city park for Civil War Days. About 150 reenactors, some from as far away as Nebraska, are set to converge on Adams for the event.

The park opens at 9 a.m. and the battle reenactment will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., followed by medical demonstrations. The camp will close to the public at 4 p.m.

Wherever you are going Sunday, be sure to take dad’s car. Austin High School girl’s basketball program holds a Father’s Day Car Wash Fundraiser in the Games People Play parking lot from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Free will donations will be accepted; all proceeds to go to AHS girls basketball.
