A llama is still on the loose after Mower County deputies were unable to control it Saturday.

The animal had been creating a traffic disturbance near county roads 1 and 16 northwest of Waltham, prompting the deputies to use Tasers, which were unsuccessful. The llama was also shot at but continued to roam freely.

The animal belongs to Belinda Hochstetler, of nearby 30925 560th Ave., according to a report.

The report does not indicate how the llama got loose.

Hochstetler told deputies that she understood the animal was being a nuisance and force was necessary in controlling it.

Sheriff Terese Amazi said llama problems aren’t very common in Mower County but this particular animal has been a nuisance for about a week.
