St. John’s Lutheran Church in Austin, 1200 13th Ave. NW, will hold a 50s Diner Dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 12. The dinner is a free-will donation event and is open to the public.

There will be burgers, hotdogs, french fries, beverages and root beer floats. The event is run by the St. John’s youth and will be used to help offset costs of a mission trip and other events.

This year’s mission trip is in West Virginia where youth will proclaim their faith and help those in need. The money raised at this dinner will also offset the cost of the 2013 National Youth Gathering in San Antonio, Texas, where youth also learn and mature in their faith.

This is the first year that St. John’s is trying the 50’s diner theme. In previous years, St. John’s held a romantic Valentine’s Dinner. However, the 1950s Diner theme will be open to more than just couples.

There will be a dance floor, a kid-friendly atmosphere and tunes from the 50s. The youth aim to create an authentic atmosphere by having the waiters and waitresses wear common 50s-style clothing to accompany some 50s artifacts, as well.
