Come January, the Austin Police Department will be at full staff for the first time in four years.

City Council voted Monday night to approve Police Chief Brian Krueger’s recommendations for the two open detective positions.

Patrolmen Todd Clennon and Pat Retterath are now officially the APD’s two newest detectives; however, the two will not step into their positions until mid-January, when the two patrols-in-training are ready to be on their own in the field.

Council members Marion Clennon and John Martin abstained from the vote. Clennon said she did not feel it was fair to vote, as she is related to Todd Clennon. Martin said he has prior relationships that would have caused his vote to be biased.

Todd Clennon has been with APD as an officer for 11 years and Retterath has been with APD for 12 years.
