Elizabeth Heydt, 96

Elizabeth C. Heydt, age 96, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 25, 2010 at Lake Winona Manor, Winona.

Elizabeth was born on March 10, 1914 in Blooming Praire to James and Inger Marie (Newman) Jensen. She was the 1930 Valedictorian at Austin High School. She graduated from Winona State Teachers College in 1933.

Elizabeth married Maynard J. Heydt at Austin on August 20, 1939. He preceded her in death on April 17, 2000.

She was an elementary school teacher in rural Mower and Freeborn Counties, and in the cities of Sargeant and Winona. For eleven years, she also operated, with her husband, the Sterling Motel in Winona.

Elizabeth was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Winona, where she was an active member and held various offices in women’s organizations of the United Methodist in both Sargaent and Winona. She also taught Sunday School, Bible School and sang in the church choir.

She was State Vice President of the E.U.B. Women’s Organization, and held various offices in the PTA and other community organizations. She was a member of the Danish Sisterhood of America, League of Women Voters, Winona Education Association and American Red Cross.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, Margaret Ingvalson and brother, James Jensen.

She had much love for and enjoyment of her family.

Among who survive her are four children, Patricia (Jerome) Nelson, Stewartville; John (Ann) Heydt, Alexandria; Joanie (Gordie nelson) Heydt, Winona and David (Jean) Heydt, Winona; eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren including, Mike (Kathy) Nelson and Michayla and Hunter; Matt (Patty) Nelson and Mitch and Kyle; Nick (Jen) Heydt and Will, Elle and Mac; Katie Heydt; Jake (Annie) Heydt; Jessie Heydt-nelson; Jennie Heydt-nelson; Nate (Lily) Heydt-nelson and Sienna; Laura Heydt; Rachael Heydt and Erica Heydt.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Tranquility Chapel of Lake Winona Manor. Visitation will also be held at Martin-Myhre Funeral Home, Winona, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. where there will be a Closing Prayer Service led by Pastor Wade Davick. Spring burial will be in Waltham Cemetery, rural Sargeant.
