A 52-year-old Rochester man was put on a 72-hour hold after he slapped his young boy and appeared drunk Tuesday at the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center.
Others on the trail near the man saw the incident and smelled alcohol on him, according to a report.
When police arrived, the man said he didn’t remember slapping the boy, whose age was not listed in the report. He did say he occasionally spanked his children because of behavioral problems.
The man’s wife said her husband had a history of anger problems and had been taking medications.
The boy and his sister, who was with the man when the incident occurred, were returned to their mother in Rochester, according to the report. The girl’s age also was not listed.
The man was taken to Austin Medical Center for evaluation and put on a 72-hour hold.
