Published 5:00 pm Saturday, January 8, 2011
The start of the new year means the next couple of months are a busy time in the gaming industry. There’s a glut (a glut!) of good-looking games coming out. Look for the following five games to make headlines and suck up your time over the next few months.
Dead Space 2: Rated M.
Out Jan.25 for 360, PS3, PC
Space mutants are coming to invade your TV, and they’re not playing nice. Dark, nasty creatures will run at you fast and it’s your job to survive their infestation. The first game and subsequent prequel were scary good and the second game looks to be more terrifying.
Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds: Rated T. Out Feb. 15 for 360, PS3
Fighting game afficionados have reason to celebrate as Capcom revisits one of their most lauded series. With comic book legends like Magneto, Captain America, Spiderman and Deadpool taking on Capcom characters like Ryu, Dante, and Zero, it’s a full-on geek-out fighter with a lot going for it.
De Blob 2: Rated E. Out Feb. 22 for 360, PS3, Wii, DS
De Blob was a sleeper hit in 2008, featuring a fun alien who’s made it his mission to liven up the gray alien world he lives in by painting the town red, yellow, green, blue, purple and all sorts of colors. The next installment promises to bring even more lighthearted fun, making this a good game to pick up for the family.
BulletStorm: Rated M. Out Feb 22 for 360, PS3, PC
There’s shooter games, and then there’s overkill. Guess which category BulletStorm is in? There’s been a lot of buzz surrounding the game’s skill kill-based point system, which rewards players for their … creativity in overcoming adversity (read: finding nasty ways to blow people up. Or away.)
Twisted Metal: Rating pending. Out March 1
for PS3
Twisted Metal is for the action buffs who always wanted cars with machine guns on the hood.
The latest game in a series that rocked the original Playstation in the ‘90s comes out in March, according to GameStop. Many of the classic characters are confirmed for the game, and there’s a whole bevy of new options like two Special Moves and weapons. It’ll be interesting to see how the cars will incorporate sniper rifles and shot guns in this demolition derby.
