CRWD to tackle new floodplain rules

The Cedar River Watershed District will hold a board meeting on Wednesday to clarify some confusing rules regarding area snow removal and floodplain loss.
Response from Mower and Dodge County officials recently indicated some cost concerns. One rule states that snow storage won’t be allowed to accumulate in the floodplain, and another states that soil lost from a flood cannot exceed 250 cubic yards. Board members will try to explain how these events will be determined when they happen and how they may be enforced.
There will be more time for residents within the watershed district to express their opinions about these rules and the many others within the draft. However, CRWD administrator Bev Nordby hoped for more public input by this time because the rules will be finalized in March. She said the CRWD distributed 101 copies of its rules amongst the community and received comments from only Dodge and Mower’s local governments.
Although the public can attend and get an idea of some of the current concerns, the CRWD board is not hearing any public input on Wednesday. The CRWD will hold its regular, monthly meeting Jan. 19 when public input is welcome.
