District balancing integration budget

Although district officials over budgeted some of its integration related services this year, it won’t be saving any money.

The district will move integration funds from its transportation budget, its general supply budget and from a proposed after school coordinator position to pay for more after school programming staff, among other things.

District officials set aside money for a part-time after school programming coordinator for the new after school programming offered this year, but couldn’t find a suitable candidate for the job. As a result, each school now has its own coordinator, which will now be paid for using that money.

In addition, more staff can teach after school programming after district officials found a higher than expected amount of students participating in after school programming. Transportation funds, which were budgeted for programming throughout the week, can be cut back now that district officials have found students aren’t participating as often on Wednesdays.
