Funeral services for Genevieve M. Thorsen will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 1, 2012, at the Grand Meadow Lutheran Church in Grand Meadow with the Rev. Ann Siverling officiating. Burial will be in the Hoflanda Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at the Hindt Funeral Home in Grand Meadow and will continue at the church on Thursday for one hour prior to the service.

Genevieve M. Thorsen, 81, of Grand Meadow died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012, at the Grand Meadow Health Care Center.

She was born Feb. 17, 1931, in Mower County to Arthur and Coral (Gunderson) Blom and attended and graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1949. Following her graduation she attended Austin Community College and received her teaching certificate. From 1950 to 1952 she taught at the District 53 School near Grand Meadow. Genevieve started working for Mayo Clinic on May 12, 1958, and retired as a supervisor on June 28, 1994. On July 17, 1954, she was united in marriage to Norman W. Thorson. He died in July of 1993. She was later married to Norbert Thorsen on Aug. 9, 1997, at Hoflanda Lutheran Church. Genevieve enjoyed decorating, doing crafts and traveling. She also enjoyed cooking but also looked forward to going out to eat.

She is survived by her husband, Norbert of Grand Meadow and her children, Michael (Jo) Thorson of Austin, Minn., Cynthia Mahoney of Rochester, Minn., Jeffrey (Ruth) Thorson of Waltham, Minn., James Thorson and Daniel (Brenda) Thorson all of Rochester, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brother, Gary (Alice) Blom of Byron, Minn.; sister-in-law, Janet Blom of Maple Grove, Minn.

She is also survived by Norbert’s children, Steve (Judy) Thorsen of Grand Meadow, Russell Thorsen of San Francisco, Calif., Tracy Thorsen of La Crosse, Wis., and Peggy (Brian) Maeney of Mason City, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Coral and her stepmother, Kathryn; first husband; brother, Ronald and a sister, Barbara.
