Judges have been selected for the Mower County Fair Talent Contest to be held on Saturday, Aug. 15, at 1 p.m. on the Godfather’s Fair Square/Farm Bureau stages.
Sue Radloff, a graduate of Mankato State College, is a recognized expert in the field of instrumental music. She is concert master of the Austin Symphony Orchestra as well as a member of the Rochester and La Crosse Symphony Orchestra.
Radloff has taught many years in the Austin school system, but is now semi-retired, teaching private lessons and teaching part-time in Austin Catholic Schools.
Joining her this year is Pam Koser, also an Austin resident. Koser graduated from Mankato State College as a speech clinician, and she teaches at Banfield Elementary in Austin. When teaching special education preschool, she began combining the speech skill with music, an innovative idea and quite successful.
Koser and her husband, Brian, have twin boys, and they enjoy singing as a group, mostly at their church and for small groups.
The contest has three age categories: the Pre-teen Division is for people 12 and under, the Teen Division for ages 13-19; and the Open Division is for all others. Judges will place three top winners in each division awarding $40 to first place, $30 to second place and $20 to third place. The first place winner in each division will advance to perform at the Minnesota State Fair held in St. Paul the last week in August.
There is a fee of $10 to enter the contest. The deadline for entry is Thursday, Aug. 13 at 9 p.m.
Entry forms are in the Fair Book, found in most libraries and banks. For any information, call the coordinator, Vandy Newman, at 437-4437 or 438-2237 or e-mail him at vandlynnewman@cs.com or visit www.mowercountyfair.com.
