EDITORIAL: Arc’s Our Place will be nice addition

It was a good day for a local non-profit organization Monday. Arc of Mower County, which works as an advocate for people with developmental disabilities and their families, broke ground on their “Our Place Recreation Center” that should be open by the end of this year.
The building, which will measure 4,600 sq. ft., will be built next to the Mower County Senior Center, with access to both facilities.
The project includes remodeling portions of the senior center and will be made possible largely through a $661,000 donation by The Hormel Foundation.
The “Our Place Recreation Center” will allow the recreation members of Arc, roughly 300 of them, to have a place of their own to hold activities, access computers and just visit with others who share similar disabilities.
Arc of Mower County hasn’t had a permanent facility since the 2004 flood destroyed its previous location.
We commend Arc officials for their service to Mower County, congratulate them on the groundbreaking of their new facility, and we applaud The Hormel Foundation for their generous donation to help this cause.
