Greek Yogurt: Many people think “Greek yogurt” refers to where it is made, it actually describes how it’s made!

It involves a whey straining technique that leaves the yogurt creamy and tangy with double the protein of regular yogurt. It is also naturally lower in sodium, sugar and carbohydrates.

Greek yogurt makes an excellent substitute for sour cream in your favorite dip recipe, just be sure to go for the plain non-fat variety for the exact same flavor.

Check out the nutritional savings: 8 ounces of sour cream has 480 calories, 40 grams of fat and 8 g protein. While 8 ounces of non-fat Greek yogurt has 133 calories, 0 grams of fat and 24 grams of protein (to keep you feeling fuller longer)! Need I say more?

Beans: This powerhouse food is loaded with nutrition! Beans are a good source of protein, have an excellent source of fiber (5-10 grams/half cup depending on the variety), are fat-free and cholesterol-free! Another important note is that those who consume beans are associated with lower body weight and waist circumference. And those who eat beans four or more times per week have a 22 percent lower risk of coronary heart disease!

Beans are versatile and can be used in dips, added to taco pizza, added to salads for a fiber and protein boost and of course, chili!

Whether you choose canned beans or dry beans to soak, both have the same benefits. When choosing canned, look for low or reduced-sodium varieties and be sure to drain and rinse for another 40% reduction in salt.

Fruits and Vegetables: The produce section is filled with colorful fruits and vegetables that should be on your buffet table for the big game. Make it fun by going with the colors of your favorite team or have a wide variety and serve with a healthy dip.
