New restaurant opening in Oak Park Mall

There’s something cooking up at Oak Park Mall.
In March, the mall will become home to Ruby’s Place, a restaurant that will run on a menu of homemade family-style dishes.
Ruby’s will set up shop in the former site of Johnny’s Tap Room. But before the doors open, the location is undergoing a major remodeling project.
“It’s not going to be the same place that you saw before,” said Shan Kehret, who is running the restaurant with her husband, Dayton Kehret. “It will have a totally different atmosphere.”
Shan, current marketing manager for Oak Park Mall, said the two had always wanted to open a restaurant and saw the perfect opportunity in the vacant restaurant location.
“We’ve always thought about it,” Shan said. “We’ve always had interest in doing it, and when the right opportunity came about, we took it.”
The couple’s children will also be involved in the business venture, making it a family affair for the Kehrets.
Shan said the restaurant will only serve homemade food.
“We’ll have homemade hot roast, hamburger patties, steak — it will be a nice family restaurant where you can sit down with your family,” she said.
The opening date for the restaurant has not yet been set.
