Children will discover the story of Easter through their own deductive reasoning this weekend at Faith Evangelical Free Church.
The church’s “Mystery: Jerusalem” invites children to become junior detectives and help solve the mystery of Easter. Activities begin at 10 a.m. Saturday.
“They’re trying to figure out what happened, why Jesus died and who he is,” said Shelley Batdorf of Faith Church.
Batdorf is a children’s ministry director at the church along with Kristy Rooney. The women arranged the event as an interactive skit, where detectives would perform scenes and interact with other cast members. Eyewitnesses, people who have been healed and one of the disciples will all be supporting roles.
“The detectives will be trying to figure out what’s going on,” Batdorf said. “Children will be invited to help figure it out.”
Batdorf said they will use some sets from Redemption’s Road, an interactive tour taking place this week at the church. Children see clues, talk with the skit detectives and enter Christ’s tomb to see that it’s empty.
Faith Church will also include an Easter egg hunt and cookie decoration as part of the event. Mystery: Jerusalem targets toddlers through fifth-graders and takes place at Faith Church, 1800 12th St. SW in Austin. The even is free and open to the public.
