Austin Symphony Orchestra rolls out multimedia concert

Even though it’s after Valentine’s Day, love will be in the air Sunday at Knowlton Auditorium as the Austin Symphony Orchestra performs its third concert of the season, titled “Love’s Labour Lost.”

This orchestra performance is special, however. For the first time, ASO will be featured alongside 13 dancers from Jane Taylor’s Academy of Dance, along with artwork  from the Austin Area Arts Center to form a multimedia showcase where images. Dancers will interpret ASO renditions of pieces like Mahler’s “Songs of a Wayfarer,” a song cycle about unrequited love. ASO will also perform several Percy Grainger compositions as well as Faure’s “Pelleas and Melisande” and Rimsky Korsakov’s “Procession of the Nobles from Mlada,” both pieces about ill-fated love.

While the orchestra plays, dancers will interpret the music while a projection screen will show artwork which helps set the tone for the piece. Artwork not used during the concert will be on display in the auditorium lobby, according to Marge Dunlap, ASO’s business manager.
