Spring was in full bloom on latest trip

Everything is coming up roses. Or tulips in my case.

In 2011, on our trip to Washington, D.C., our local guide took us to the White House grounds where anyone could pick tulip bulbs after they had died off from the spring season. Although we were there a day later, we still found bulbs and all four of mine have bloomed a bright red this past week.

Speaking of flowers, this past week our tour to the Twin Cities and Bachman’s Flowers was a sure sign of spring. It was breathtaking. As was the tour of the Macy’s eighth floor where there was plenty in bloom, including trees. It was a site to behold.

Now you will have another chance on April 26 at the Minneapolis Art Institute and the 29th annual Art in Bloom art and flower festival.

This year’s theme is “Art in the Garden” and is aptly depicted in this year’s signature image, “The Butterfly Catchers.”

The main attractions of art are on view throughout the museum, which is designed by individuals and garden clubs. Spectacular floral sculptures by commercial florists will appear on each level of the museum.

The Art in Bloom gift shop will also be open during this celebration.

Choose to follow a guide or attend a workshop and demonstration.

A new exhibition presents China’s enduring fascination with nature. Jim Wegner, well-known for his art in our community, will be with us for this show.

We have seats available. Call our travel number at 507-438-3946. We will depart at 7:30 a.m. from the Wal-mart parking lot. We will be making a coffee stop enroute.
