An Austin man’s vehicle “erupted into flames” while he was backing out of his driveway Wednesday afternoon, according to Austin police.
Police Chief Brian Krueger said an officer who was on routine patrol saw the 1994 black Cadillac backing out of a driveway in the 900 block of Eighth Avenue Northeast around 3:30 Wednesday afternoon. As it was backing out, it started on fire.
The driver, whose name was not released, exited the car safely. Attempts to extinguish the blaze with a fire extinguisher from the officer’s patrol car were unsuccessful, so the Austin Fire Department responded and put out the fire.
There were no injuries. The police report made no mention of the cause or the damage estimate, Krueger said.
