Walter “Wally” L. Jukes, 68

Walter “Wally” L. Jukes, 68 of Austin, passed away at home on Friday, April 13, 2012, after a long battle with cancer. He was born June 21, 1943, in Rochester, Minn. to Walter F. and Bernice (Schafer) Jukes. He was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith and grew up in Brownsdale. A 1961 graduate of Hayfield High School, Mr. Jukes worked for Great Plains Supply Lumber Company until 1984 and as a truck driver for the Mower County Highway Department until retiring in December 2006. He was married to Marcine Kay Boysen on Sept.14, 1968, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. He loved deer hunting, fishing on Lake Vermilion and Leech Lake, watching NASCAR, and gardening. He was a devoted fan of the Twins, Gophers, and Vikings. He enjoyed several trips to Las Vegas, Laughlin, and going to NASCAR races at Talladega and Las Vegas. Wally was a loving and caring husband and brother and will be greatly missed. We will all miss his smile and great sense of humor.

Survivors include his wife Marcine of Austin; sisters, Nellie Wanous and Shirley (Don) Meier, both of Brownsdale; brothers-in-law Dale (Donna) Boysen of Cottonwood, Ariz., Rick (Lori) Boysen of Hope, Randy (Mary) Boysen of Blooming Prairie; sister-in-law Theresa Boysen of Austin; many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Bernice, sisters Mildred Schmeling and Helen Wanous Fiebiger, brothers-in-law William Wanous, Richard Wanous, Carl Fiebiger, Melvin Schmeling, Larry Boysen, and Bob Boysen.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday April 17, 2012, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin, with Reverend Shari Mason officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. The family prefers that memorials be made to cancer research.
