The Packer softball team had a couple of seventh inning letdowns as it had to settle for a seventh place finish at the Austin Elks Invite in Todd Park Friday.

The Packers (5-8 overall) allowed late rallies in a 15-13 loss to Albert Lea and in a 5-3 loss to Simley before beating Dover-Eyota 10-4 to end the night.

The Packers out-hit the Tigers 19-8, but AL scored 11 runs in the top of the seventh to get the win. Austin was tied with Simley 3-3 going into the seventh, when Simley took the lead with a two-run homer.

“We hit the ball well all day and we played extremley well against Simley, which is a team we usually struggle with,” Austin head coach Tina Strauss said. “It was nice to end the night on a good note with a win.”

Austin senior center fielder Katelyn Joseph was selected to the All-Tournament Team as she went 7-for-12 on the day.
