Lorna Grace Hanson, 89, Blooming Prairie

Lorna Grace Hanson, 89, of Blooming Prairie, Minn. died Friday afternoon, April 27, 2012, at Prairie Manor Care Center in Blooming Prairie.

Lorna was born July 16, 1922, in Blooming Prairie, the daughter of Aldine and Aura (Berg) Hanson. She attended country school and graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1940. After graduation, Lorna began working at the Geo. A. Hormel Company before attending business school in Mankato, Minn. Lorna then began working in the accounting department for Standard Oil of Indiana in Minneapolis, later transferring to their headquarters in Kansas City. She continued to work for them as they became BP Oil until her retirement.

Lorna returned to Blooming Prairie after her retirement, where she lived in her own home until entering Prairie Manor Care Center on Sept. 11, 2006. Lorna was a member of Red Oak Lutheran Church and was always active in her church and community. She enjoyed music and attending concerts, and was a member of the garden club. She never missed remembering her family on their birthdays. Lorna also loved to travel and was able to visit many places in the United States, including Alaska, and to travel to Europe.

Survivors include her sister, Doris Samuelson of Elbow Lake, Minn.; three brothers, Lyle Hanson of Blooming Prairie, Luther (Gloria) Hanson of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Dale (Austra) Hanson of Blooming Prairie; sister-in-law, Norma Hanson of Blooming Prairie; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Aldine and Aura Hanson and one brother, Kasper.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 3, 2012, at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church, rural Austin, Minn. with Pastor Lindsay Stolen officiating. Interment will follow the service in Red Oak Grove Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. The family prefers memorials to Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church or Prairie Manor Care Center. The Worlein – Blooming Prairie Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
