Frances M. Guttormson, 87, of Austin, Minn., passed away Friday, April 27, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin.

Frances Margretta Byers was born Oct. 1, 1924, in Dexter Township, Minn. to Richard and Anna (Tischer) Byers. She attended Sargeant and Elkton schools and was a waitress at various area restaurants. On Nov. 1, 1944, she was united in marriage to Raymond Guttormson, her loving husband of 67 years, in Austin. Together they had six children. Frances spent most of her life as a homemaker. A member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin, she enjoyed word find puzzles, traveling in an R.V., taking fall color drives, shopping and visiting with friends. Her family was very important to her. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and loved her dog Heidi. Frances and Ray spent many winters in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas.

Survivors include her husband Raymond of Austin; her children, Carolyn (Gerald) Sash of Austin, Marsha (Steve) Bergan of Lakeville, Minn., Kevin (Kathleen) Guttormson of Grand Rapids, Minn., Marlin (Kristi) Guttormson of Wyoming, Minn., Thomas (Melissa) Guttormson of Montgomery, Minn., and Jill (Dave) Brosen of Ellendale, Minn; nine grandchildren, Lon, Scott, Jeff, Courtney, Drew, Katie, Zach, Aaron, Grace; four great-grandchildren, Matthew, Megan, Noah, Madelyn; sister Leona Hensel of Austin; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Richard and Anna, and two brothers, Leonard and Myron.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 4, 2012, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin with Todd Portinga, associate in ministry, officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at a later date. The family prefers that memorials be made to St. Olaf Lutheran Church.
