An Austin man who broke into a local home and stole prescription medications in December was sentenced to a decade’s worth of probation Wednesday in Mower County court.
If Travis Thomas Stigney, 24, violates his probation, he will face roughly two years of jail time.
According to a criminal complaint, Austin police officers responded to a burglary call at about 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 12 at a home in the 700 block of Seventh Avenue Southeast.
A 30-year-old woman told police that when she arrived home, she found Stigney, who is an acquaintance, sitting on a living room couch. She asked him to leave.
After he did, the woman noticed some of her daughter’s medications were missing, the complaint states.
This included 15 mg of Adderall and 5 mg of dextroamphetamine.
Authorities found a window screen had been placed up against the outside of the house. There were also fresh footprints in the snow near the window, which is where the woman believes Stigney entered.
Stigney was previously convicted of felony burglary by a Mower County judge in 2005.
